A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ROWLETT TOASTER

The first commercial toaster was manufactured by the founder of the company, my father Ted Rutland, who was a qualified toolmaker, in 1946 at his Staines factory (Middlesex), followed a year later in 1947, by Rowlett’s domestic 2 slot toaster.

Spares for these toasters were still being supplied up until about 10 years ago.

Production soon out grew the Staines factory and was moved to Burnt Oak, Edgware.

Production was expanded to include a whole range of toys and domestic appliances. Just a few are illustrated below.

Production continued until 1957 when the Company was relocated Twickenham, Middlesex.

In 1966 Rowlett moved to their Weybridge site where production started in earnest concentrating on continuous improvement of the quality and extension of their range of commercial toasters and expanding their market to over 70 countries throughout the world.

In 2002 Rowlett joined forces with R V Rutland (UK) Ltd and production was moved to our new modern factories in Bookham, Surrey.

Our range has been extended and quality continues to improve. The end result is a top class product range we offer to all our customers throughout the World
